Quick Tip: How well do you know your nervous system?

Our bodies are enormously complex. And it’s not just about the bones, muscles, and tendons. It’s also about the nervous system, which transmits sensory information between the brain and all corners of the body.

Sometimes, working directly with the tissue and bones is not enough. We have to focus on the neurological impediments to recovery and well-being. That’s why our clinical team is always thinking about how massage speaks to the nervous system. But we go deeper than that, too.

When our tissue therapists identify physical patterns that might be rooted in the nervous system, they often refer to our clinical team members who do neurological-based bodywork. Certain team members at Psoas fold these modalities into their practice, and others focus on them exclusively:

NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT)® – NKT® uses muscle testing protocols to repair dysfunctional communication between the brain and muscles.
Motor-Control Therapy (MCT)® – Psoas therapist Michael Talbot designed MCT® after years of practicing NKT®. MCT® taps into the neural pathways that the brain uses to communicate with musculature, resetting harmful holding patterns.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy – This modality uses a gentle touch to calm the body’s tension, relieve stress, and reduce pain rooted in nervous system dysfunction. We’re excited to have a new Cranio specialist on our team who is dedicated solely to this modality and has demonstrated profound success with complex issues!

Members of our neuro-based team are also trained in Proprioceptive – Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR)®, Feldenkrais Method®, and Ortho-Bionomy®, to name a few of our other modalities. If you’re dealing with pain, stress, or just curious to see how one of these approaches can bring about your body’s optimal states of function, give our intake specialists a call. We’d love to help facilitate a treatment plan for you to try one or all of the above.
