Quick Tip: Basic Desk Ergonomics

Posted by on Feb 11, 2015 in Health and Wellness

Improper ergonomics at your desk can cause problems from Upper Crossed Syndrome to general aches to debilitating Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs). So, if you’re sitting in front of a computer for any substantial period of time each day, it’s more than worth it to adjust your chair and desk to get the proper alignment. Follow along with Jenny Lightstone’s basic ergonomic check-in in this video to set up healthy angles at your ankle, hip, elbow, and knee joints while sitting at your desk. When in doubt, remember that all these angles should be a bit larger than ninety degrees and your shoulders should be in a resting position.

After you watch, evaluate your desk situation, make the necessary changes, and see how you feel. You might not notice anything right away, but we promise you’ll thank yourself later! And don’t forget that these instructions aren’t a substitute for getting an in-depth ergonomic assessment, which we highly recommend.
