Quick Tip: Are you warming up before running?

It’s been awhile since we shared tips specific to runners, so we’re busting out this old video of our favorite running coach, Marathon Matt. In this Quick Tip, Matt offers some excellent pre-run dynamic stretches to increase range of motion and prevent injury. If you want a chance to show them off, come join Marathon Matt at the upcoming Tick Trailblaze marathon. We’ll be there offering post-run massage, too! In the meantime, try these warm-ups out, and let us know what you think.

After jogging for a few minutes to loosen up, begin with some dynamic toe-touches, lifting your leg to touch your opposite outstretched fingertips. Next move to some knee-huggers, lifting the knee and pulling it into the chest, and repeating on each side. Then try out a dynamic quad stretch, holding your foot behind you and leaning into the stretch on each side. Finally, imitate some freestyle swimming to loosen up the arms, shoulders, and upper back. Spend 45-60 seconds on each of these exercises, and let us know if you notice less fatigue and soreness after your runs!
