Kinesiology Tape got a surge in popularity after the 2008 Beijing Olympics where a number of athletes were seen with tape during competition. Since then it has been incorporated into the wellness routine for athletes of all levels.
As an aid to increase performance, Kinesiology Tape will stimulate the muscle tissue below it to promote proper muscle activation, range of motion, and help correct dysfunctional movement patterns. It is believed that Kinesiology Tape can even help improve motor control by providing sensory feedback to the brain.
As a pain relief tool Kinesiology Tape works by microscopically lifting the skin away from the muscle and fascia below it. This “fascial lift” improves circulation and lymphatic drainage which decompresses the area and can help reduce pain and inflammation.
Therapists that provide Kinesiology Taping at Psoas may include it as part of a standard session, but can also provide a quick 15 minute or 30 minute session to clients just looking for tape. Many athletes will use these shorter sessions right before an event or race to maximize the benefits of the tape.
