The Importance of Collaboration

When most people think of massage therapy, they picture a single therapist working one-on-one with a client in a quiet treatment room. While that’s certainly part of the picture at Psoas Masssage + Bodywork, what often goes unseen is the powerful way collaboration shapes each client’s experience and results. At our clinic, collaboration isn’t just a buzzword — it’s one of the cornerstones of how we approach bodywork and therapeutic care.

Collaboration Within Psoas

No two clients are alike — and neither are our therapists. Our team is made up of a team of bodyworkers who each have their unique skillset, bringing specialized training, techniques, and perspectives to the table. While most of our team can provide orthopedic deep tissue massage, some of the specializations our team has includes:

  • Active Release Technique (ART), which is a highly effective movement based modality for soft tissue injuries, repetitive strain issues, and improving athletic performance.

  • Ortho-Bionomy®, a gentle, osteopathic-based approach that helps the body unwind patterns of pain and restriction by engaging with the proprioceptive reflexes of the nervous system.

  • Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is another gentle approach for clients dealing with trauma, nervous system dysregulation, or more subtle patterns of tension.

  • Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) Another neurologically based modality, our therapists trained in NKT use assessment and corrective movement strategies to address faulty muscle patterns.

  • Kinesiology Taping can improve athletic performance, help manage pain, and even help improve lymphatic flow while an injury recovers.

  • Cupping Therapy supports circulation, reduces fascial adhesions, and speeds recovery.

  • Intraoral Massage helps with TMJ dysfunction, headaches, and jaw pain.

  • And for those looking to build strength and stability, we have massage therapists who offer Mat Pilates and who are also certified as Personal Trainers.

Each specialty is powerful on its own. But when our team of therapists collaborate — referring clients to colleagues, discussing treatment strategies, and combining techniques — clients receive care that’s more comprehensive and effective than what any single modality could achieve alone.

We pride ourselves on not being competitive with each other, or become possessive of our clients. We aren't drive by getting you back on our table, but getting you back on whomever's table will get you to your goals.

How Collaboration Helps Clients

Collaboration isn’t about handing a client off — it’s about widening the lens. Sometimes a client comes in for deep tissue massage but discovers that combining it with cupping or NKT helps resolve their pain more quickly. Or a client who has plateaued with one approach might find progress after being referred to a colleague who can lead that client through specific exercises.

Because our team communicates openly, we’re able to share insights and perspectives that help guide treatment decisions. Many clients at Psoas see multiple therapists and benefit from our team-based approach where the focus is not just on short-term relief, but on long-term functional improvement. That collaboration includes our Front Desk Specialists, who take the time learn about each therapists skills and how they're best used in order make informed suggestions to clients, new and returning, at Psoas.

Working Beyond Our Walls

Collaboration doesn’t stop with our massage therapy team. We know that true wellness often requires a multifaceted approach, which is why we maintain strong relationships with outside providers. We regularly collaborate with:

  • Physical Therapists, to ensure our soft tissue work complements their rehab protocols.

  • Acupuncturists, who address systemic imbalances that can contribute to pain and tension.

  • Chiropractors, to support structural alignment and joint health.

  • Personal Trainers, who help clients build the strength and stability to maintain progress.

  • Orthopedic Doctors, to integrate bodywork safely and effectively alongside medical treatment.

It's a two way street, we send clients out to these complementary practices as much as they send clients to us. This network means our clients aren’t left on their own to piece together care. Instead, they have a coordinated support system where each practitioner respects and builds upon the work of the others.

A Culture of Learning and Support at Psoas

At the heart of this collaborative approach is a culture of respect and curiosity. Our therapists are continually learning from each other — whether through regular skill-sharing sessions at the clinic, break-room conversations, and quarterly workshops where top instructors in the field visit our clinic. This not only keeps us sharp as practitioners and at the forefront of truly effective bodywork and alternative medicines, but also fosters a supportive environment where clients feel the benefit of a truly connected team.

Why Collaboration Matters

In the end, collaboration in massage therapy and bodywork isn’t just about professional courtesy — it’s about outcomes. Clients get better results when therapists share knowledge, combine skills, and connect with other healthcare providers. Collaboration helps prevent burnout among practitioners, strengthens community ties, and ensures that every client who walks through our doors gets care that is thoughtful, individualized, and backed by a team.

If you’re seeking massage therapy that goes beyond a single modality, our clinic offers not just a variety of techniques, but also a collaborative team committed to supporting you in reaching your goals. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or simply looking to move and feel better in your body, you don’t have to do it alone — and neither do we.
